American Indian Absorbent Pad Dried sphagnum moss can absorb many times its own weight in water or other liquids. It was used by Indian women for menstrual periods, and for "diapers" for infants. It was also used alone, or dipped in wormwood or rue tea, garlic juice, or elderblossom tea and applied to a wound.
In drying the moss, keep it covered with cheesecloth or under the weight of a large screen to make sure it doesn't blow away.
